Grateful

I am grateful for those who offer their lives to seek justice and equality for all people. For those who are compassionate. Patient and yet not stuck. Urgent and yet not compulsive. For those who seek to understand the feelings communicated by others in seemingly unfeeling words. For those who communicate their own feelings in loving ways not just spewing them out for other people to sort out.

In a world ruled by empirical power and self-justification, I cherish those who live vulnerable, humble, servant lives.

Change!

"Trying to educate a bigot is like shining light into the pupil of an eye - it constricts." - Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr

Bullies

"Oh the poor bully who when finally challenged starts to whine. God loves repentant bullies and has some patience for bullies who face their comeuppance. But God calls all whiners to let go and let God." - from the Writings of Hobart Rhodeheaver

Letting go

It's time to let go "church" and let God. You about squeezed all the life out of this thing. Go on a sabbatical as a church. See what God has been trying to do with you all along. Maybe in a 6 month sabbatical you'll see what God has been working on with you for the last century.

Ain't We Good

"Too many so-called churches act as social clubs with personal chaplains who dabble in charity. They are self-congratulatory on how caring they are for one another and how proud they are of their folks, especially their children on mission projects, who do things for 'the poor.'" Hobart Rhodeheaver in his book "CH--CH. What's Missing? - GOD!"

good old and new medicine

"In the day pretty much everyone got health care coverage. You went to the Doc, he (and a few she's) took care of you. You maybe had a tab or traded a chicken or potatoes for the care. Today SOME of us had far better coverage for a LOT MORE chickens and potatoes. Some folks are trying to make sure that we could have both worlds. Fuller coverage with better medical technology. Don't know what all the ruckus has been about. We're just going back to the good old days."In the day pretty much everyone got health care coverage. I am grateful God is far more loving and accepting and forgiving than judging. - Hobart Rhodeheaver

Friday, October 18, 2013

What if we rotated from week to week one day a week we would just expect people to be like Christ? Like a church potluck supper. Last names starting with A-C on Sundays of one week, D-G on Mondays of the next week and so on. At least one day a week that way the church could invite people to "see" Christ. - Hobart Rhodeheaver

I prefer to see people living like Jesus more than liking him on Facebook. - Hobart Rhodeheaver

Sunday, September 29, 2013

"I find it interesting how many adults complain that kids don't read. Yet the will claim they don't have time to read a good book or just plop themselves in front of the tv watching the alarmist news media and then complain how bad the world is." - Hobart Rhodeheaver

"There are times I have real clarity and times I am a lost soul. My problem is when I get the two confused with each other." - Hobart Rhodeheaver

"I wonder if God got minimum wage for the work of the six days of creation or if God did it as a volunteer." - Hobart Rhodeheaver

Wednesday, September 04, 2013

"If I win in the world's standards, I lose my connection with Christ. If I follow & die with Christ, I lose in the world's eyes. I will take my chances with Christ!" - Hobart Rhodeheaver

"When I give my life to something, I am on a mission. When I give my money to a charity, I am a donor. Donors support charities. Those who have given their life as a mission, give it the energy to move forward." - Hobart Rhodeheaver

"I'd prefer to sing a song than to dance a jig. But I rather dance a jig than to listen to most of the sermons I hear today. I want to hear more about God and the story of God's people than recipes on how to try make my life better." - Hobart Rhodeheaver
